Name the Puppy Contest
Mar 10,2017 | Terri Luckey
I need a name for a puppy. On facebook this week, I asked all my friends and several of my groups to help me choose between four different puppies since my character, Gina, finds an unwanted mutt in a storm drain, and I needed to describe him in the book I’m finishing up, “Fearless, Fallen & Forgotten.” I got a ton of responses and the vote was very close, but puppy #1 won, so here’s what Gina’s puppy will look like in my newest book.

Many of you commented that this little guy looked more like a mutt than some of the others. I agree, so I think he’s a great choice. I want to thank all of you who participated and voted for a puppy, but now I have to name him. Since you did such a great job with choosing him, I thought you might want to help me put a name to that adorable face. But this time, to make it even more fun, I thought I’d hold a contest.
If you suggest the name that I end up using, you could win a prize. If more than one person offers the same name of the one I select, then I’ll do a drawing for the winner. I was going to give away a book, but since some of you already have them I decided to let whoever wins pick between a $10 Amazon Gift Card or a signed copy of one of my books.
I need a great name and I know you’ll come up with one. Thanks again for all your participation and support. You can comment below or on my facebook page. And if you haven’t registered on my site or followed me on facebook, please do, so I can contact you if you win. 🙂
This was the dog of my choice! I look at him and i see Scruffy!! So thats the name i choose- Scruffy!!
Thanks Debra for the suggestion. It’s a really good one. 🙂
I would call him Snookem or Stormy Jay. My husband said Chico.
Thanks, Jeanese. Those are good names. The contest will run through Monday, and then we’ll make a decision.
I Think his name should be
( ( LUCKY ) )
Thanks, Roger. That’s what Amber said, too, but he got dumped so he wasn’t real lucky. 🙂
JEANESE beat me, I was going to say Stormy, since he was found in storm drain!!
Great minds think alike. 🙂
Several years ago my oldest son and his wife rescued a dog that had been dumped along the road near their house. (don’t remember the breed–probably a mutt like this one)
They named him DROPOFF – I thought that was cute and clever.
LOL
I agree. It is cute and clever! Thanks for suggesting.
Foxx.
He does look clever. Thank you for the suggestion.
Plato. He looks like a philosopher. What’s his role in the book?
Plato is a neat name. Mostly his role is showing a softer side of my character. Gina lives in a foster home when she finds him in a storm drain. She connects with him since he’s been abandoned like her, but has to hide him. He’s a resilient little guy like her.
What a little cutie!
My first thought was Storm (given the storm drain and all), but it’s hard to think of such a little guy as a storm. lol I like Lucky too…and he IS lucky, because although he was abandoned, he was also found…by someone who needs his help, just as he needs hers. That said, Lucky is SUCH a common name for a dog. Something different would be nice, wouldn’t it?
My suggestions are Chance (because, what are the chances he’d be found in such a place?) and Rocky (for his rocky start in life).
Thank you for those great suggestions! All of these good names are going to make it difficult to choose. The contest runs through tomorrow and then we’ll decide. 🙂
I think your puppy looks like a Scout.
Scout is a cute name. Thank you for the suggestion.
He kind of looks like my dogs, but with more black markings on him, I like the name Toby…my little guy is named Toby….actually his name is Tobias Oliver.
Thanks. Toby is a great suggestion.
How about “Flash?” Also, I had a great puppy when I was young named “Gogo.”
Both would be cute names for a puppy. Thank you for your suggestions.
Zeus and Thor were gods of thunder, storm, wind, rain (generally bad weather) in Greek and Norse mythology. If Gina is looking to instill herself with a little confidence by giving her dog a strong, confident name, a mythological god’s name might help. And be sorta cute and humorous at the same time when you see a tiny puppy name Thor. =0)
Mythological names and their meanings are interesting. Thank you for your suggestions.
I think he looks like a SCOOTER! H looms like he is ready to scoot across the floor! Such a little [email protected]
Scooter is cute. Thank you for the suggestion.
We had over 200 responses in the Name the Puppy Contest from our different on-line and social media posts so it made it really hard to pick a name from so many great choices. We finally decided that the suggestion of TUFFY would fit the storyline of “Fearless, Fallen & Forgotten,” best. Because this puppy is a survivor and resilient, and the teens in the story respect toughness. So the puppy now has a name. Thank you so much to all of you who participated in the Name the Puppy Contest.
